Dali, Michelangelo, Bosch, the Renaissance and Baroque.

These are but a few of the artists and periods in art that inform the style of Vincent G. Madrid aka V.
Having pursued a career in music at a young age in his native Los Angeles as well as in England, it wasn’t until age 22 that the visions began to take a different more urgent form requiring a different medium of expression.

Starting with the most basic forms and egg tempera paint, V embarked on a new journey of discovery through paint.
Having taught himself through trial and error, and a tireless thirst for knowledge of the Masters and their techniques, Vincent’s approach remains highly instinctual letting intuition be his guide.

His skills evolved rapidly in leaps and bounds as if by muscle memory which is clearly evidenced when looking at his work throughout his career.
From group and solo shows throughout Los Angeles to interior murals and portraiture, Vincent remains rooted in his desire to learn more and continue to evolve both consciousness and his artistic abilities which he believes to be one and the same.

His paintings direct ones gaze to theĀ  singular unifying spirit that connects us all as living beings.
It is in the sacred and profound depths of the collective unconscious from which this language emerges in the form of symbols and imagery as a means of realization that we are the cosmos aware of itself.

The subject matter in his work is never researched or planned in advance.
They present themselves in his mind in a constant stream so that the real effort put forth is for him to stop the stream long enough to capture an appropriate image,
like a still frame in a film.

It is only afterward when the tableaux is fully realized on paper, canvas or wood that meaning can be interpreted from the placement of the images collected therein.

He seeks to use these metaphoric signs, whimsical and classical, juxtaposed together in such a way as to inspire a dialogue between the conscious and unconscious parts of our existence.

Through these inner visions he seeks to transform and inspire the beauty of our shared human experience.
